Challenge

Postpartum mothers don't have the bandwidth most tracking apps assume. Laav needed to feel light on the user, give breastfeeding-safe guidance without being clinical, and still be accurate enough to be useful โ€” across illustration, UX, and implementation.

Process

  1. 01Step

    Research

Mapped what postpartum users actually need from a tracker โ€” short sessions, forgiving UX, breastfeeding context โ€” instead of starting from a generic calorie app's feature list.

  2. 02Step

    Design system

Built the visual language and component library first so flows could be assembled quickly and stay consistent as the app grew.

  3. 03Step

    Implementation

Wired the UI to a working data layer, kept input flows fast, and iterated on the parts that turned out to be slower than they should be in real use.

Outcome

A calorie tracker that fits the postpartum context โ€” short enough sessions that it actually gets used, with enough nutrition logic underneath to be trustworthy.
